At the Academic Acceleration Academy students obtain a high school diploma in about 2 years based on previous credit and OGT history.

Students will:

Student Services Department
The Student Services Department is designed to create a supportive and nurturing environment that enhances the personal, academic, and social development of all students. Working in partnership with service agencies and local businesses from across the Columbus community, we prepare students to be responsible and contributing members in a diverse, global society. We provide learning opportunities, meaningful work development seminars that can culminate into student employment, and professional support services that help develop more successful students.

Graduation Reality and Dual Roll Skills (G.R.A.D.S)
G.R.A.D.S is a program and service for the parenting students at AAA. Parenting students have complex needs that are different from students who do not share that particular set of responsibilities. AAA is committed to offering a variety of assistance to students, these services include:
  • Assisting with job/career goals and plane
  • Assisting with class make-up work and assignments
  • Providing students with parenting information and resources
  • Assist with college preparation or other forms of post secondary education
  • Social service agency assistance
Work Based Learning
Ohio has great opportunities for a wide range of career-related employment. Now is the time to plan, prepare, and train young people to meet the challenges of our nation's and Ohio's job market. AAA encourages development in areas of student interest and our community employment demands. Students will experience growth through the following services:

Career Academy Program Course Offerings


In today's economic climate a high school diploma is not enough. Use your Career Academy training to help pay for your post secondary training and education. Academic Acceleration Academics students may become enrolled in the Health, Construction, IT or Business Academies which prepares them to earn nationally recognized industry certificates.

HEALTH ACADEMY

This program is a certified nurse assistant program approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing. Successful students will have the opportunity to become a licensed nurse assistant.

Health Sciences Foundations: 207810 Introduction to Health Services

Students will be introduced to health care through exploration of the following areas related to the field: the evolution of the approaches to health care delivery, health care professions, legal and ethical issues, communications and safety in the health care environment and basic infection control issues.

Nurse Assistant: 207900 Nurse Assistant

This course is designed to instruct students in basic patient care skills. The course follows the content standards set by the Ohio Department of Health for nurse aide training programs in Ohio. The main content areas include: communication and interpersonal skills, infection control, safety and emergency procedures, promoting resident independence, resident rights, basic nursing skills, personal care skills, mental health and social services needs, and basic restorative services.

CONSTRUCTION ACADEMY

Students successfully completing this program will receive one year's credit toward a four-year apprenticeship program and nationally recognized certificates.

Construction Core: 213510 Basic Construction

Students will study the properties, construction applications, standards, specifications and elementary material testing methods of soils, aggregates, asphalt, cement concrete, masonry, metals and woods. Laboratory work will be included. In addition students will participate and show mastery in OSHA, Building Essentials/Tools and Green Construction.

Carpentry I: 213010 Carpentry I

Designed to teach the basics of tool use, material selection and use, and construction techniques in the first year. Students work on small and large projects. Senior-year students study advanced techniques such as the design of buildings, flooring, framing, interior and exterior trimming, window and door installation, and cabinetwork.

Electricity I: 213210 Construction Electricity I
Students learn how to install and maintain electrical systems in residential areas, including houses, apartments, and residential buildings. Second-year students develop skills needed to install and maintain electrical systems in business and commercial buildings. All students study circuitry, local and national electrical codes, and related industry-specific terminology.

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY ACADEMY

Skills acquired in IT Essentials I: PC Hardware followed by IT Essential II: PC Software offers students as opportunity to take the CompTIA A+ Certification test. This course provides the industry certification criteria for becoming a personal computer service technician.

IT Essentials I: 244520 IT ESSENTIALS 1: PC Hardware
PC Hardware: Introduces students to information technology and data communications. Students will develop the necessary skills to enter this field by building a computer, adding peripherals, connecting the computer to a local area network and to the Internet, ad troubleshooting hardware problems. ii. IT Essentials II: PC Software: Introduces students to information technology and data communications. Students will develop the necessary skills to enter this field by installing the operating system, adding peripherals, connecting the computer to a local area network and to the Internet, and troubleshooting software problems.

BUSINESS ACADEMY

Students will work toward obtaining MOS Certification.

Word: 254291 Microsoft Word
Students will work towards becoming proficient in Microsoft Word, the industry standard for business communication. Students will learn how to key in text, edit, format, print, manage files, use tables, work with pictures and charts. In addition students will work with columns, sorting, worksheets, calculations, mail merge and collaborating with workgroups. Students will work toward obtaining MOS Certification.

Excel: 254311 Microsoft Excel
Students will work towards becoming proficient in Microsoft Excel, the industry standard for spreadsheets. Students will work with cells, format and modify worksheets, use page setup, print, work with workbooks, use formulas and functions and create charts. Students will work toward obtaining MOS Certification.

PowerPoint: 210313 Powerpoint
Students will work towards becoming proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, the industry standard for presentations. Students will learn to create presentations, add text, import data from other sources, modify, customize, and deliver presentations over a variety of media.

ADDITONAL STUDENT CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business Global Perspectives
Student teams will participate in a high school business case challenge. Teams will develop and present business plans for a case competition.

Otterbein University Ubuntu Mentoring and College Access Program
Otterbein students meet weekly with AAA students for food, fun, and important conversations about life and family. Through Ubuntu, AAA students are empowered to develop aspirations for college, academic achievement, and a positive self-identity.

Plan to enroll in college or career/technical program after high school
Columbus State Community College or another college.
